El ESPACIO DE LA MEMORIA – Museo Thyssen

EL ESPACIO DE LA MEMORIA (The memory space)

Thyssen-Bornemizsa Museum, Madrid. Febrary 22 to March 19, 2017

The Thyssen Museum presents El espacio de la memoria (The space of memory), an exhibition organized by the Education Area to share the work done during the last two years within Nos + others in network. The project, initiated in 2015 to address the gender perspective, has the collaboration of several women’s associations and the Rede Museística Provincial de Lugo, and the support of The Edmond de Rothschild Foundations.

The exhibition includes the creative process of the participants in the workshops designed by the artists Paula Cabaleiro, Monica Mura, Paula Noya and Mery Pais, which start from a selection of works from the permanent collection to make their proposal. Together with these pieces, which include very varied techniques, ranging from collage to photography, through performance and transfer on paper, the works of these four artists are also presented, which were the germ of the project: Olladas sen fronteiras ( 2015), by Mery Pais; A memoria é o perfume da alma (2015), by Paula Noya;Sas diosas: Miradas, sa arèntzia mea (2015), by Monica Mura, and Meu berce, meu mar (2015), by Paula Cabaleiro.

The objective of this public presentation is that it becomes an open door to the whole process, in a way that allows other people to join the dialogue raised around four major themes: family, memory, intimate spaces and portraiture. A new stage of the project begins now, in which the participants become mediators to transfer the process they have lived to the partners of their associations and groups. For this, mediation activities and new workshops have been designed, which will be carried out both in the showroom and in its centers.

Workshops directed by Monica Mura:

In El retrato. Abriendo la puerta a nuestro lugar más íntimo (The portrait. Opening the door to our most intimate place), Monica Mura is based on that of Giovanna Tornabuoni (1489-1490), from Ghirlandaio, so that the participants experiment with individual photographic portraits and create a collective one.

Composición 4’ x 30, by Monica Mura and Mery Pais, based on Composición XX (1920), by Theo van Doesburg,
